Morard
Claire Morard -Contemporary artist
Claire Morard was born in 1955 in Annecy, France. After studying psychology and social sciences, she dedicates herself to artistic activity. It was in Italy during between 1982 and 1983 that she continued her research on the expressive and conceptual possibilities of pure painting. To reveal the very essence of things Claire uses everything that constitutes herself: her body, her gesture, her writing, her intuitions. Pigments, ashes, oil paint, everything is modelled, reworked to reveal a subtle painting in it's own nuances, authentic and essential. Her already rich curriculum includes numerous groups and solo exhibitions between 1996 and last few years in Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Belgium.
Currently based in France and working in different project as independent artist.
Painting is a language gaining attention again from the public and galleries but most of all, in its simple rhetorical versions / interpretations, provocatively spectacular and post impressionistic, where the figure and form/shape are not but symbols or “words” of possible discourses / speech originating from the
restricted reality of individual experiences. But another “course of contemporary painting” exists; that which is happening from the extraordinary poetic outcomes of essential elements, achieved by Sims, Spalletti, De Maria, (colour becomes pure and depth becomes absolute and complete) and Palladino’s research, today developed in a post expressionism by its new vital colour/chromatic, formal and even symbolic essentials. In this “style / outline” and in this space, Claire Morard’s research can be applied since other than its formal results, it has a similar internal approach; but due to the same inner-being/internal way, there are the remarkable achievements of Gao Xingjian’s ink painting: ideally binding together, in a spiritual place, two traditions culturally distant but spiritually similar. On these historic and formal lines, in a very radical and complex personal internal tension, Claire maintains the expressive and conceptual possibilities of “pure painting”, mentally and internally directed to research of the balance between many and absolute. From the informal lesson she applies the subject and basics of grammar but goes beyond the rhetoric and impulsive emotionality, the simple and automatic training, concentrating on forms/shapes and minute signs, basic chromatic colour changes but continual and of constant lighting reflection.
The tension of essential elements increases the concentration. It does not lose the glance/gaze and does not allow
nothingness and something missing. It does not seek the ethereal world and being dreamy “far away”. The colour sections that liven the pictorial /painted surfaces are very rich of reflections due to a typical quality of Claire’s painting; retaining the light, making the natural lighting contribute to the visual movement of the surfaces. By means of this quality, the infinite range and continual variables of tones, the particulars tend to harmonise/ balance with each other, and it becomes a visual combination; such made possible by the lights that go across it.
